It is not only you who has overlooked the deck while
doing renovation last spring. Now when you see some spots on your floor you can
admit it to yourself that you painted your deck while keeping the right
procedure at stake. You are sure that you would not repeat that mistake again as
you know the right thing. If you are still not sure what kind of a wood paint your log will best look
with. Try out this :
There are basically
4 types of deck stain opacities:
- Clear Deck Stains:
this type of deck paint allows you to see the original wood with clarity
of its texture which simply implies that even the granules will be
visible. They are best suggested for expensive woods like cedar, redwoods
and teak. The wood looks natural with these stains. They need to be
applied again every couple of years.
- Tinted Deck Stains:
Tinted stains give almost natural shade to your wood surface. If this is
the first time you are painting your wood you can consider tinted paints.
They are very subtle in nature; an accidental reapplication will not be
noticeable. Reapplication is suggested every 2-3 years.
- Semitransparent Deck Stains: This category of wood stains impart heavy doses of
pigmentation to the wood surface. They are though recommended for older
logs. The surfaces of which a few planks have been replaces, application
of semitransparent deck stains will make them look smoother after
finishing. Depth of hue will bring uniformity. It asks for a reapplication
in 3-4 years of time.
- Solid Deck Stains:
They are recommended best for hiding the imperfections of your deck. Wear
and tear is natural after years of exposure. Solid Deck stains will work
on them. Wood grain will not be visible with solid deck stains. Reapplication
is advised every 5 years.
